Service Description

Most academics are judged for promotion and tenure for their written output, but most of us were never actually taught to write. This dynamic and affordable workshop covers strands of academic writing that most people don't hear or think about. You'll leave with actionable tools to use to improve text, metatext, and paratext. We'll see what thinking explicitly about genre, audience, and structure can do for us. Finally, we'll examine writing specific components of the social science research paper. Time permitting, we will briefly address common editing and revising issues. This course is designed to support social science writers; others are welcome on the understanding that my ability to make specific recommendations will be lower. Small group environment. Brief homework assignments each week to practice the skills + in-class activities. PhD holders and PhD students welcome; not suitable for Masters students. Native and non-native speakers of English welcome. 6 weeks/12 hrs class time. Schedule TBD by interested participants. REGISTRATION IS NOT YET OPEN. Signal your interest by JOINING THE WAITING LIST at https://forms.gle/zTpVQj4s6ZN2DxvQ8 . I will contact wait list members in mid-August about scheduling a day and time. My preference is Thursday or Friday, but other options are possible.
